Chapter Nineteen
Presley
Iâm drenchedâsoaked to the bones with a chatter to my teeth as Rhett pulls me inside his house. The second the cold air from his air conditioning hits me, a shiver racks through me⦠hard. Quickly, he rushes me to the bathroom where he pulls a towel from the cabinet and wraps it around me.
âHang on,â he says and then rushes back out.
It doesnât take me long to realize this bathroom is Hadleyâs. The wallpaper is gray with white storks, and the counter is white with teal cabinets. The shower curtain is adorableâmulticolored large raindropsâand beside the tub on the floor is a basket of toys. This is a little girlâs dream.
âHere,â Rhettâs voice has me spinning around. âTheyâll swallow you whole, but theyâre dry.â
He hands me a pair of black sweatpants and a blue t-shirt before stepping out and shutting the door behind him. I change out of my soaked clothes, deciding to leave my bra on because⦠well, because. The scent of Rhettâwoodsy, sandalwood, manlyâfills my nose and I grin a little to myself, bringing the fabric to my nose and inhaling.
I fold up my clothes and set them on the edge of the bathtub before setting off in search of Rhett. My feet stall along with my heart the moment I spot him. Heâs standing at the edge of the kitchen counter in dark gray sweatpants and a navy-blue t-shirt that clings to him. His hair is wet, disheveled like a towel has been run over it. Itâs tremendously sexy.
He makes a slow perusal down my bodyâfrom my head to my toes. I can feel every inch where his gaze scorches my skin. When his eyes latch on to mine, heat swirls in their depths.
âI umâ¦â Iâve got no words. My brain is short circuitingâ¦
He steps closer and tucks a wet strand of hair behind my ear. His eyes are blazing. My heart is thundering. âI like you in my clothes better than yours.â
I bite my lip, heat crawling over my cheeks. âI like that they smell like you.â
The corners of his lips pull up into a sexy smirk and his gaze falls to my lips. For a moment the air around us becomes charged with only the sound of our breaths filling the room. My pulse races through my limbs. Arousal, thick and greedy zings over my skin.
He lowers his head and crashes his mouth into mine as he snakes a hand around my neck to tug me closer against his body. I drag my hands up his chest and slide them around to the back of his neck, desperate to ground myself so I donât float away. He deepens the kiss, his tongue sweeping in and across mine, and again⦠my toes curl.
His fingers tighten in my hair as my back hits the wall. Flexing his hips into me, I feel his thick bulge and I moan. Weâre tangled. Hands roaming. Desperate. Gluttonous. Needy. Wanting.
But suddenly, itâs all gone. He rips his mouth away and drops his forehead to mine.
